new IMDB post

Posted by Leslie on August 3, 2006

I just realized how much my website is in need of updating. Not just the pictures… the whole focus. For anyone who doesn’t know, here’s the update: I love to act but it’s not my focus anymore. I’ve decided with all the time and energy and money I put into mailing out pictures and networking myself as an actor, I could just produce something myself, which is what I’ve been doing.

I don’t turn down rolls if I like them and don’t have to audition, but I don’t go out of my way to get the roll. It’s just not worth it.

See, presenting oneself as an actor might or might not illicit an audition…
which might or might not illicit a callback…
which might or might not illicit the roll…
which might or might not be a quality roll to being with (the last audition I was requested to attend was for was a bimbette slasher flick… Needless to say, I declined).

This also seems like an appropriate moment to mention Real vs. Reel was added to IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0823630/

So here I am: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1853477/

There is another credit that is supposed to be up there from something I shot a year ago, but they are running into complications with IMDB (I did, too, but I persevered and cleared up the kinks of my application). I’m very happy that this project was added and everyone involved totally deserves the credit (as do a lot of people who were not credited like Jerry Kernion, Jeremy Feig, Frank Woodward, Suzanne Lyons, Ryan at Blueprint and George Chen. Because it was a 48 hour film we were crunched for time when preparing the credits and we left out the special thanks to a bunch of key people that were instrumental in making the film happen. My apologies to those people and my deepest gratitude for their participation.)

  • You are a big shot now?

  • Here is an update on what Jerry Kernion is doing now.

“Ug, the Caveman Musical” imagines the invention of theatre in prehistoric times. It is a humorous parody about the basic need to relate our experiences through the most expressive medium: reenactment. The storyline focuses on the best and worst of theatre and… human nature: from the spirit that moves us, to vanity, need of approval, temptation, and sleeping one’s way to the top. Stereotypical? Yes, but true within the theatre industry and elsewhere.
Written with a dry wit characteristic of Jim Geoghan, (television writer who collaborated with Norman Lear on such acclaimed shows as “One Day At A Time”,” Facts of Life”, “Silver Spoons” and later worked as author/producer on “Family Matters” as well as currently on “Suite Life of Zack and Cody” on the Disney channel.) accompanied by easy and “catchy” music by Rick Rhodes (who has recently passed away)and lyrics by Jim Geoghan, Vivian and Rick Rhodes, the show is an absolute MUST SEE! Shana Targosz’ choice of costumes which don’t attempt to be historically accurate, but remind more of tattered rags worn by the homeless is a good choice as the play is richly interjected with thoroughly contemporary punch lines. The choreography by Terry J. Barto is vivacious and delivered by the actors with a rarely seen precision and enthusiasm. Last but not least, Jerry Kernion, the new Artistic Director of The Attic Theatre and Film Center, does a fabulous job of bringing the many creative talents together and directing “Ug, the Caveman Musical” in a masterful fashion, avoiding the pitfalls of most musicals: tedious narratives that bridge song and dance numbers. Under his masterful hand, there is not a boring moment, the entire show is fast paced and the treats keep on coming.

The experience of “Ug” is a rare treat: a LIVE theatre at its very best! The youthful cast is energetic, passionate, and professional. Ten performers on – let’s face it! – a very small stage intensify the experience of a face to face encounter with the organic substance of LIVE theatre. Thom Babbes as the King Neanderthal gives a show-stopping performance and Devin Sidell’s as the seductive and manipulative Tatata is tantalizing. Each of the actors can act, dance and sing and they ALL do it great! It is amazing in particular if one remembers that this is not a film; in a live theatre there are no safety nets: no cutting and editing out mishaps. The delivery has to be perfect. Lo and behold, the cast of “Ug” delivers flawlessly!

“Ug” is a musical that meets and exceeds the expectations of its genre and shines in the best tradition; it is a musical re-imagined, a skillful blend of the charm of Rodgers and Hammerstein with a thoroughly contemporary sarcasm of… Seinfeld(?) The music is hum-able, the love story has a happy ending, the choreography is vivacious, there is a message that reaches the viewer whether he or she is a theatre insider or a regular Joe who in the privacy of his/her mind has also dreamed of personal significance and worried about winning the favor of his “powers to be”.

In this spirit, if you’re looking for a top notch entertainment with the added excitement of a LIVE and thrilling performance, you must see “Ug”! -Eve Enrich, http://www.culturaleventsinlosangeles.com
