We’ll call this one November 2004

I know it’s been a while since I last wrote. That doesn’t mean that things have not been shifting at a consistent pace, but I just have been a bit less enthusiastic about blogging. Many people blog as a form of expression, and usually do it anonymously. Sometimes I think it is dangerous that I have such easy access to a public forum because of my tendency to write first – think later, and implementing self-control as I write isn’t as freeing. But I suppose I should just stop bitching and get to the news, right?

There are two morsels here: I have been holding back the first one since September. I shot reenactments for a documentary called Store two months ago. The documentary is about storage units, which is actually quite a fascinating topic. I like to think about how many stories are held in each unit, and then about how many units in each building. And now I have my own storage unit story! (But it’s not a happy one.) The day before we shot (excuse the preemptive pun), some guy had shot himself (with a gun, not a camera) the night before in the unit he was renting. We found out because the unit next to his was freaking out because there was a puddle of blood in their space and apparently he shot upward so there was also brain matter that had landed on their belongings (the walls don’t go all the way up.) Aside from that, it was a great day of shooting (a documentary). The project was covered under an AFTRA contract with deferred pay, which would have gotten me into SAG six months ago because I have been a member of AFTRA for over a year and this was a principal contract. Unfortunately, SAG changed their rules half-way through per-production, not allowing deferred-pay AFTRA members to qualify. The production company, Star Vehicle Enterprises, wasn’t going to put the project on hold because SAG changed their rules, so we still did the project. I’m still aiming for my SAG card, but the good news is that I spoke to the producers recently and they said the documentary came out even better than they thought it would, and that getting a distributor will be no problem. Once we get a distributor, I’ll get paid. Once I get paid, I will qualify for SAG. Hopefully, I won’t have to wait for that to happen and something will come along sooner that will get me in, but it’s reassuring to have this one in my pocket.

Morsel number two: I was called in a little over a month ago by an agency called Zanak, Passon and Pace. After several callbacks, they decided they would like to sign me. I am very excited to be working with this agency! I have heard great things about them and I really like the vibe there. I just shot some new headshots at their request. They came out great! They liked the headshots I shot in September, but wanted something with more specific “types” (doctor, businesswoman, mother). I will post those shots soon when I get a chance. As for now, I have posted two of the pictures from the September shoot (below).
