Ask your cinematographer what he thinks will be best for the particular shoot.
Each shoot is different and the DP might have a need for a special filter or lens depending on what the shoot entails.
Lighting also is good to ask your DP about. I have never had to rent lighting kits because my DP or my producer (when I’m directing and not producing) has always had the lights that are necessary for the shoot. Again, borrow what you can, and fill in the blanks with rental houses.
